We are a fiber optic splicing company in Michigan. We’ve been hard at work on a tube fiber optic installation project near Kalamazoo. Severe winter weather almost cost us the deadline, but we pulled through with the recent warm stretch.
On this job we worked with Commscope fiber optic cable and associated products. Most jobs we do will have several different fiber optic cable brands installed throughout the various runs. Using all Commscope made things just a little faster. The cable seems to fit in the cases and taps like a glove.
We only ran into one issue. When going through the final few light level tests we noticed that the last leg with 4 taps had high loss. After troubleshooting for a bit one of the guys found a slightly bent tube.
Repairing bent fiber tube
Some guys will place a piece of electrical tape on a bent tube and some will try to massage it out. Others will tuck it in and pray for the best. But there is really only one way to deal with a bent fiber optic tube. Pull it out, open it up and inspect for damage and put the loose fiber in a tray.
